Los Angeles is a great city, full of opportunity, diversity and creative energy. That's why, like many of you, my family and I chose to move here. And it's why we've stayed.
Innovative Angelenos have reinvented our city’s economy many times throughout its history. We became the world’s entertainment capital in the 1920s, a large oil producer in the ‘40s, the center of television and technology in the ‘60s and ‘70s. We led in aerospace and defense throughout the ‘80s and ‘90s. These industries provided good-paying jobs and the foundation for a way of life that became the envy of the world.
Today, we need a strategy to build a new foundation for our economy—a foundation that will again foster the innovation and opportunity that’s needed to create good, sustainable jobs.
We’ve had enough talk from career politicians. We need a leader who can and will bring together the best people and the best ideas from our business, labor, faith-based and academic communities, as well as from neighborhoods all around L.A. We need a mayor who will roll up his sleeves and work tirelessly on behalf of all Angelenos. And we need to change the culture of City Hall from one that says “no” to new ideas to one that says “yes”—one that will turn those ideas into realities.
I can. That’s why, with the support of my wife and family, I have decided to launch my campaign for Mayor of Los Angeles. I have a track record as a “doer”—creating jobs, building businesses and solving problems. I know that with your support we can get the job done for our city.
In the months ahead, I will seek out your thoughts, concerns and solutions. Please join me, and let’s make Los Angeles a city that works.
